Rock a Bye Baby

This crib held my very first baby, a sweet little boy all swaddled up like a burrito in our 5 story condo. And then we moved and it was the sleeping place for that same sweet baby while he learned to crawl and walk and talk and dance. And then he found out he was going to have a little sister and within a few days, he transitioned himself into his big boy car bed without a complaint so he could pass on his crib to her.
And then this crib held my sweet baby girl, who now at 19 months old, seems wise, stubborn and daring beyond her years. She moved into her big girl bed last week and has slept through nap time and nighttime ever since (luckily she takes after her brother in the sleep dept). And now the crib has moved into the garage until we find some other excited new parent to haul it away and they can carefully place their new peanut in it and watch his every breathe for the first few weeks.......

And the glider is empty now too. It was my home away from home with the arrival of both babies.....nursing in the middle of the night, reading stories before nap and bedtime, and a place to relax with my babies when they would wake up in the morning. But now, even Lylah says she has outgrown it. She prefers that we read her stories in her bed, snuggled up on her pillow with her blankies and baby. I miss rocking both of them in the chair and I am sad that those moments cannot come back, but I wouldn't trade this new time I spend nestled up against both of them in their beds every night, cuddling, reading, telling stories and singing songs. Bittersweet.
