lesson learned.....

at 37, I am still learning many things.....many of which my kids are teaching me.
Brady had swimming lessons yesterday, so Jon took Lylah to gym class and I took Brady to his first day of swimming. The whole way there, Brady told me he wasn't going to get in the pool, not even one time. You see, sometimes he doesn't like to try new things or things he is not comfortable with, or so he will tell you!
When we got to the pool, I told the other mom in his class of 2 that Brady wasn't going to get in the water and that I would need to stay with him the whole time.
And for the first 2o minutes, I was dead on. Brady barely dipped his toe in the water and asked me to stay by his side, refusing to go any further than the first step in the pool. It didn't help that the other boy in the class had the same reservations!
But his teacher was patient and tried again and again. It was the "pizza" that did it. She engaged Brady in making a pretend pizza in the water and that was it. He got in the water, splashed, played and practiced kicking while his teacher held him on his belly. I was able to inch away further and further until he didn't even know if I was still there.
And at the end of class, he came running out of the water, all grins, and proceeded to jump on the crocodile water slide all by himself.
Life lesson #342: don't prejudge and don't count out these little peanuts....they will continue to surprise and impress me in so many ways!
