This year was a very different kind of holiday for us! Believe it or not, this was the first Christmas I have ever spent without my parents. We have always found a way to travel to each other but with COVID, no one wanted to take a chance.
We still managed to carry on many of our favorite family traditions and even added a new one or two.
The kids got into the holiday spirit early in the month by decorating the house more than they ever have before. We still went to St. Nicks to pick new ornaments for the tree. We made some of our favorite holiday cookies (date balls, cookie dough balls, and toffee crackers). We also added a driving tour of holiday lights from Arvada to Littleton (with Grandma Barb and Papa following in their car)and went with family friends (Jernigans) to help them cut down their Xmas trees (and Lylah picked a cute one for her room). We also checked out an exhibit (I Love Christmas Movies) at the Gaylord hotel....cute exhibits from some of our fave movies), with the bonus being the amazing Xmas lights at dark at the Gaylord. Jon of course made Grandbob's Xmas cookie recipe which we had a fun time decorating and we capped off the pre-Xmas activities with a zoom call with Grandmama and Grandbob on Xmas eve (Grandbob read his inappropriate Twas the Night Before Xmas) and of course Christmas Vacation!
Christmas Day itself was quiet but we had a very nice day! Kids opened their presented and we had family Zoom calls, Gma Barb and Papa stopped by for a quick, distanced visit and we had a yummy beef tenderloin feast followed by a family game and the movie Elf!
Once Christmas wrapped up, we spent New Year's with the Barbics and McManns...very fun night of games and food! Home by 1145pm to ring in the New Year with just the four of us.
Soooooooom while it was a very different Christmas and I missed my parents a ton, we still made it a special holiday season for all! and onto 2021!!!! XOXO
