The C word

It's a nasty, mean word that I wish I never had to hear again.

Mom (grandmama) had a carcinoma (form of skin cancer) removed today. All went well and she is doing fine but it was enough to make me take a pause, and think, and remember.

Brady & Lylah,
I have a relationship with my mom and dad (your grandmama and grandbob) that I can only hope you both have with me and your dad. I have so many happy memories with my mom and dad (and brother Bob) from when I was growing up. I also remember that I sometimes then (and now) take things for granted. It is easy to get caught up in life, whether as a teenager, a college student, a newlywed, a career women and even now, as a mother myself.
Hearing the C word, no matter the outcome, reminds me that we will are here for such a short time and no matter how busy or crazy things seem, there are only a few things that REALLY matter....most important of those is family. I know there are many times I have hurt and disappointed my mom and dad, even now.....and yet they have loved me unconditionally, as I love the two of you. I remember my mom and dad both telling me how much they missed their parents, and I never fully understood it when I was younger. But now, things are different, and I get it. My mom and dad are my friends, my protectors, my support, advisors and role models.

So my advice to you......wear sunscreen and wide brimmed hats......and love and be loved by your family!
XOXO
