Th Big Apple

Fall Break 2023 was quite the adventure. We have learned to take advantage of the time the kids have off of school as much as possible and this was no exception.

Our first family adventure to the Big Apple did not disappoint! Jon did a great job of mapping out three very full days, where we were able to see everything we wanted and then some! We logged 22+ miles of walking, covering the city from head to toe.

The 9/11 Memorial and Museum will stick with us all. The kids learned things they had not been exposed to yet and started to have a true sense of the enormity of the tragedy. And Jon and I relived our memories of where we were and what we saw that day on TV. Very sobering yet very glad we did it.

That same day, we also walked the Chelsea area (fashion district and Chelsea market), enjoyed lunch at the Grey Dog, walked the highline trail (super cool) and did an evening Harbor cruise not to be missed. Sat on the top deck and saw every single landmark from the boat we could have hoped for.

Day 2 was super rainy in the morning so we umbrella’d up, put on our ponchos and headed on the Subway to Brooklyn for the real deal Brooklyn pizza. Then walked back to Manhatten via the Brookyln Bridge. So fun and great photo opps of the kids. We walked to Wall Street where we ran smack into a Palestinian protest, which kept us on our toes. Ventured to Rockefeller Center, for a short bit and made our way into Times Square to ooh and ahh at all the activities and sights. Sensory overload but cool for the kids to see for sure!

Day 3 was a rainy yet very cool walk in Central Park. Fun to see all of the landmark from movies and tv shows along the way but everyone’s feet were worn out after that one!!

Walked back into town for a quick taco lunch, followed by the best Broadway Show I have seen to date, Lion King. We all agreed the costumes, signing and story were the best! So glad we did that.

More Times Square, a walk to FAO Schwartz for a stufftie for Lylah and then dinner at Carmines for the biggest load of Calamari we have ever had!

Capped off the vaca with a trip to the Top of Rockefeller Center for the most amazing views of the city (different but just as good as the Harbor Cruise).

I think the kids really enjoyed it….learned and saw a ton in a few days. Experienced the other lifestyles outside of the burbs and all that comes with it.

I am extremely grateful for all of the experiences we have had with the kids. While we have lived in the same town and two houses their whole childhood, they have had the good fortune of being exposed to many different parts of the country and beyond.

Summers, Spring Breaks, fall breaks and holidays have allowed adventures like Disney World, Seattle, Washington DC, Maine, Boston, Texas, Mexico, Florida beaches, San Diego, Costa Rica, Hawaii and more! I hope the kids feel they had great family memories, time away from the day to day and the opportunity to see different parts of the country and a start to other parts of the world. We travel well together (despite 22 miles of walking) and tend to find fun, a little adventure and new experiences every

step of the way. I look forward to what’s to come next and hope we have many more experiences in the years ahead! Nothing makes me happier than creating the memories together!!! XOXOX

*pardon the photo dump...so many good ones to share!
